A message from Secretary of Education Dave Long

In March 2007, I was honored to be appointed California's Secretary of Education by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. In that role, I serve as the primary education advisor to the Governor. The Office of the Secretary of Education (OSE) provides the Administration with recommendations and fiscal analyses on all education policy and legislative proposals and initiatives.

Governor Schwarzenegger has pledged to focus attention on key education issues during the coming year and beyond. As such, he has charged OSE to lead and coordinate the development of California's education policy agenda. In an effort to engage education's key stakeholders in a dialogue centered on education policy and reform, OSE has been in the process of gathering input from around the state to help shape our policy recommendations.
