SB1309:
- Expands the number of nurse education programs in California.
- Creates the Employees of State Facilities (ESF) program to provide loan assumption warrants to Registered Nurses (RNs) who agree to work as full-time RNs in a state-operated 24-hour facility that has a clinical RN vacancy rate of greater than 10 percent.
- States the intent of the Legislature that the Trustees of the California State University (CSU) and University of California (UC) should increase the number students enrolled in baccalaureate of science nursing (BSN) programs.
- Builds on the Governor’s 2005 Nurse Education Initiative which launched a $90 million collaborative effort between the state, health community, colleges and private industry.
